Dear All.
It is with a heavy heart that I share this sad news that Rinpoche passed into Nirvana this morning. Rinpoche is currently in the Thugdam state, so we are unable to move him to the monastery today. It is uncertain how long he will remain in this state. Arrangements are being made at the monastery, and lamas are also traveling to Mysore for the necessary rituals. Will make an official announcement by the monastery.

Con gran pesar les comparto esta triste noticia: Rinpoche pasó al Nirvana esta mañana. Rinpoche se encuentra actualmente en estado Thugdam, por lo que no podemos trasladarlo al monasterio hoy. Basic Meaning
Persons who have experience in meditation on the nature of the mind or emptiness are said to be able to remain in a meditative equipoise after death. Although they have stopped breathing and are clinically dead, they are said to be able to retain their body without decay, often with lustre and flexibility. They are believed to have actualised their buddha-nature at the time of death and attained the state of enlightenment.

Tukdam
In the Vajrayana tradition[1] of Tibetan Buddhism, tukdam (Standard Tibetan: ཐུགས་དམ, Wylie: thugs dam) is a meditative state said to occur after clinical death, and in which the body reportedly shows minimal signs of decomposition, retaining a lifelike appearance for days or even weeks. Practitioners are believed by Buddhists to be in a profound state of meditation,[2] merging their consciousness with the Clear Light, a fundamental concept in Tibetan Buddhism signifying the primordial nature of mind and reality.[3] Buddhist tradition considers that tukdam is available to all people, but only the expert practitioners of meditation, when dying, can recognize it and use it for spiritual purposes.[4]

A long Life Prayer for Ayang Rinpoche
From the vast space of Dharmakaya, pure from the beginning
arise the unobstructed luminous Sambhogakaya and the
supreme miraculous creation, the skillful tamer of beings, the emanation bodi (Nirmanakaya)
May he live long, supreme holy guide to enlightenment
With the hook of loving compassion which liberates myself and beings of the six realms from lower rebiths in Samsara.
bestowing everywhere the instruction which enlightens without meditation.
May he live long, the peerless lineage master.
Until endless sentient beings to be tamed are liberated,
Oh! Protector and refuge of all worldly realms,
may your lotus feet remain firmly, and having uprooted samsara,
may we all become enlightemed in the same mandala.
I pray that the Lama may have good health and
I pray that he may have long life.
I pray his Dharma activities spread far and wide
I pray that I may not be separated from him

H. E. (His Eminence) Chöje Ayang Tulku Rinpoche (born 1942) was born in a nomadic family in Eastern Tibet, and holds both Drikung Kagyu and Nyingma lineages. The young boy was recognised by a delegation of high lamas, including the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ayang Drubchen Tenpai Nyinpa, Nelong Drubchen, Traleg Kyagbon, and the tutor of Drikung Kyobgon Chabra Rinpoche, as the mind (wisdom) emanation of Terton Rigzin Chögyal Dorje and the seventh incarnation of the founder of the Ayang Monastery in Eastern Tibet (Kham), which was built around 1580 C.E. as a branch of the main Drikung monastery. He took his monk's vows and received his early training at Drikung Thil Changchub Ling, the main Drikung Kagyu monastery in central Tibet. From 1951 to 1955 he studied at Drikung Nyima Changra Philosophical College in central Tibet. From Khenpo Tsense Sangpo he received all the Nyingthig initiations and teachings as well as his first Phowa teaching according to the Nyingma tradition. From the great Drikung lama Nyizong Tripa he received all the initiations of Rinchen Ter Dzod and Kagyu Nag Dzod. From his own monastery, Ayang Thupten Rinpoche, who was also the tutor of the head of the Drikung lineage, bestowed on him teachings of the Six Yogas of Naropa and Mahamudra. He received teachings on Drikung Phowa from both Drikung Kyobgon Chetsang Rinpoche and Drikung Kyobgon Chungsang Rinpoche, the heads of the Drikung lineage, during the Phowa Chenmo, which takes place only once every twelve years. He was given the Upadesha (pointing out instructions) by the great Nyingma yogi Rahor Chödra Rinpoche.

"HE Ayang Rinpoche was recognized at a young age by a delegation of high lamas , including the Sixteenth Gyalwang Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje and Yongzin Jabra Rinpoche, as the wisdom incarnation of Terton Rigzin Choegyal Dorje. Following his early education at Drikung Thil Changchub Ling, the main monastery of Drikung, he continued his studies at Nyingma Thangra, the Drigung philosophical college. He received all the initiations of Rinchen Terdzo and Kagyu Nagdzod and the teachings of the Six Yogas of Naropa and Mahamudra. He also received all Nyingthig initiations and teachings as well as his first Phowa teaching (this of the Nyingma tradition) from a Nyingma Yogi, Rahor Chodra Rinpoche.
16th Karmapa, Rigpe Dorje was one for the masters who recognised Ayang Rinpoche
After finishing his studies in Tibet, he went on pilgrimage in Tibet to many of the holy places of Guru Rinpoche, doing a lengthy retreat at Phulung, where Guru Rinpoche practiced Phowa for a long time. At the end of the retreat, he performed an offering puja which was attended by many naga, who came with offerings and circumambulated his retreat while performing mantras of Guru Rinpoche. Ayang Rinpoche felt that this was a great sign and felt it might mean that in the future he would be teaching Phowa in foreign countries.
After leaving Tibet, in Rumtek, the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa gave him the initiations and oral transmissions of Chagchen Kundzod Chigshe Kundrol and a special Mahamudra introduction. From Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche in Bhutan, he received the Dam Ngag Dzod.
Ayang Rinpoche was also the founder of the Amitabha Foundation and two monasteries, including Thupten Shedup Jangchub Ling at Bylakupee, a Tibetan Settlement in the Indian State of Karnataka, Chogyab, and Ayang Tulku, Ayang being the name of a 435-year-old monastery in Kham (eastern Tibet) which is a branch of the Drikung main monastery. He sponsored the pavement of the road leading from Bylakuppe to tibetan new settlement camp and a Tibetan new settlement community hall.
